The microscopical pathology of primary parathyroid hyperplasia.

چکیده
The microscopical pathology of the two types of primary parathyroid hyperplasia is reviewed. The importance of the differential diagnosis between chief cell hyperplasia and adenoma is stressed. The problems of the surgical pathologist in masking this differential diagnosis of a biopsy, especially on a frozen section sample, are discussed.

Histological diagnosis of carcinoma of the parathyroid gland.
During the period 1950-81, 678 cases of primary hyperparathyroidism were surgically treated at University College Hospital, London. The causes were a single adenoma in 575, two adenomas in 25, carcinoma in 20 (two of which had coexistent adenomas), chief cell hyperplasia in 56, and water clear cell hyperplasia in two. Histological diagnosis is not difficult except in some cases of carcinoma and...
متن کاملA histological comparison of adenomatous and hyperplastic parathyroid glands.
The histological findings in 18 cases of parathyroid hyperplasia associated with chronic renal failure and haemodialysis have been compared with a series of 35 cases of primary adenomatous hyperparathyroidism. Analysis of several features suggests that there are no definite criteria for distinguishing microscopically between individual enlarged glands in primary and secondary hyperparathyroidis...

BACKGROUND Direct aspiration from suspected pathological tissue and rapid parathyroid hormone analysis may offer a reliable, cost effective alternative to currently used "gold standard" tests. OBJECTIVES To validate the accuracy of intraoperative measurements of parathyroid hormone levels in parathyroid adenomas. METHODS A prospective study included 22 patients diagnosed with primary hyperp...
متن کاملCarcinoid tumour of stomach and primary hyperparathyroidism: a new association.
Three cases of carcinoid tumour of the stomach associated with primary hyperparathyroidism had the clinical and pathological features of a pluriglandular syndrome. Two of the patients showed multiple small polypoid carcinoids in the non-antral stomach, in conjunction with a parathyroid adenoma in one and parathyroid hyperplasia in the other case. One of these patients was also suffering from pe...

Eosinophilic cholecystitis (EC) is a rare entity that presents in a manner comparable to acute cholecystitis. The diagnosis is based on classical symptoms of cholecystitis with the presence of eosinophils (>90%) within the gallbladder. EC has been reported alone (idiopathic EC) or in combination with manifestations such as eosinophilic cholangitis, hypereosinophilic syndromes, and parasitic inf...
